We are in the middle of a pandemic and don’t know when it will end, and we’re uncertain about how life will look in the future. This can feel frightening for us. Anxiety is a natural emotion that is a response to a perceived threat. Now, more than ever, it is important to find ways to manage anxiety.
One thing you can do is to accept your thoughts and emotions rather than fighting them. It is understandable that you are worried and afraid when there is so much uncertainty. But if we try to push down or ignore our difficult feelings, they may take on more power in our lives. Interestingly, embracing difficult emotions like anxiety can make us less likely to get stuck in them. Here is a link to a helpful mindfulness practice for working with difficult emotions https://www.tarabrach.com/rain-practice-radical-compassion/
It is called RAIN, which stands for...
Recognize- that you are feeling the emotion.
Allow- the emotion to be there.
Investigate- the emotion with curiosity and care.
Nurture- with self-compassion.
Try this practice and see how it works for you. If you are feeling stuck in fear, I am available. https://www.oceantidescounselling.ca/
